“Chrislam,” Rick Warren, and the Internet Lie That Never Dies
Aug 17, · There can be no denying what is plain and obvious and right before our eyes, so we say with complete certainty that the ‘Abraham Accord’ announced this morning is absolutely the culmination of all the work done by Rick Warren, Pope Francis and the Vatican in creating the One World Religion of zi255.comted Reading Time: 5 mins. Mar 27, · “The Rev. Rick Warren,” writes the Register ’s Jim Hinch, “one of America’s most influential Christian leaders, has embarked on an effort to heal divisions between evangelical Christians Estimated Reading Time: 8 mins.
Once again, watchbloggers are accusing Rick Warren of heresy. Because, Warren explains, a secular Orange County newspaper got something wrong about a religious issue. Some of the usual bloggers have done their usual job. However, chrislqm to the nature of the story, some mainstream news organizations and bloggers, without the constant anti-Warren agenda, were asking questions what was the cause of christopher columbus death wondering what what was going on.
I was. So, I emailed Rick and asked him. Rick sent me this interview where he seeks to bring clarification. He gave me permission to share it here at the blog. I think it will be helpful. Furthermore, it is important to note that secular newspapers do not get the nuance we often use in evangelical Christianity.
However, when we read well-known Christian leaders quoted as saying something in a rivk paper that seems out of character or contrary to their views over dofs decades, perhaps we might give that person the benefit of the doubt. I am sure those who quoted the OC Register will also quote this to clear up any confusion. Christians have a view of God dhat is unique. We believe Jesus is God! Not 3 separate gods but one God. No other faith believes Jesus is God. My God is Jesus.
Aobut belief in God as a Trinity is the foundational difference between Christians and everyone else. There are 2. QUESTION : A recent newspaper article claimed you believe Christians and Muslims worship the same God, that you are "in partnership" with a mosque, and that you both agreed to "not evangelize each other.
Can you expand on that? All three of those statements are flat out wrong. Those statements were made by a reporter, not by me. I did not say them I do not believe them I completely disagree with them So let me address each one individually: First, as I've already said, Christians have a fundamentally different view of God than Muslims. We worship Jesus as God. Muslims don't. Our God is Jesus, not Allah. Colossians "For in Christ dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. Friendship and partnership are two very different levels of commitment.
Some of our members have hosted a Bible study with Muslim friends, which I applaud, but I've never been to it, and a Bible study certainly isn't any kind of partnership or merger! It's just crazy that a simple Bible Study where people explore Scripture with non-Christians would how to type sanskrit in ms word reported as a partnership and others would interpret that as a plan for a new compromised religion.
Just crazy! Third, as both an Evangelical and as an evangelist, anyone who knows me and my 40 year track record of ministry what does rick warren say about chrislam I would never agree to "not evangelizing" anyone! I am commanded by my Savior to share the Good News with all people everywhere, all the time, in every way possible! Anyone who's heard me teach knows that my heart beats for bringing others to Jesus. What is that all about?
For years, we have invited Muslim friends to attend our Easter and Christmas services, and they have graciously attended year after year. Some have even celebrated our family's personal Christmas service in our home. So when they have a potluck when their month of fasting ends, we go to their party. It's a Jesus thing. The Pharisees criticized him as "the friend of sinners" because Jesus ate dinner with people they disapproved of.
By the way, one of my dear friends is a Jewish Rabbi and my family has celebrated Passover at his how to unlock european iphone 4, and he attends our Christmas and Easter services.
I wish more Christians would reach out in love like Jesus. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. Our culture has accepted two huge lies: The first is that if you disagree with someone's lifestyle, you must fear them or hate them.
The second is that to love someone means you agree with everything they believe or do. Both are nonsense. Aboutt don't have to compromise convictions to be compassionate. In the past 10 years, Saddleback Church has baptized over 24, new believers. No other church comes close to that record.
You are likely the most evangelistic church in America. What's the key? We are willing to go beyond our comfort zone. I'm constantly trying to build a bridge of love to nonbelievers, to atheists, to gays, to those Dors disagree with politically, and to those of other faiths.
We don't wait for these people to come to church; we go to them and share with them on their turf, not ours. Every how to make cool stuff out of duct tape is a sayy and a missionary. Saddleback was a missional church 30 years before the term became popular. We just called it being "purpose driven". It's all about your behavior and your attitude toward them. It's about genuinely loving dles.
People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. Before people ask "Is Jesus credible? Before people trust Jesus they must trust you. You cannot enemies to Christ, only your friends. It's part of what Paul calls "the ministry of reconciliation. The PEACE Center is the building on our church campus that houses about three dozen of our ministries to the community.
It offers our food bank, job training, family counseling, legal aid, car repair, tutoring, English as a wzrren language, legal immigration assistance, and many other ministries.
He got two different stories confused. This is an example of why I always doubt what I read in newspapers and blogs about ministries. Secular reporters trying to cover churches and theological issues often get it wrong. But then Christian bloggers, instead of contacting the ministry, blindly believe, quote and repost the errors made by secular reporters. Then those errors become permanent, searchable, and global on the Internet.
I couldn't count the number of times a secular reporter has gotten a story about Saddleback wrong but then it is perpetuated by Christians who never fact-check. And the three factors I mentioned about the Internet make it impossible to correct all the misperceptions, and outright lies that get repeated over and over In fact, this has been the motto ricl Saddleback Church since we started it in "A great commitment to the Great Commandment and the Great Commission will grow a great church.
God's five eternal purposes for both our lives and the church proceed from these verses. It's the lie that won't die. No matter how many times we refute it and correct that lie, people keep passing it on as truth. Jesus is the only way to salvation. If I didn't believe that, I'd get into much easier line of work!
But I do believe that everybody needs Jesus and I am willing to put up with false statements and misunderstandings in order to get the Gospel out.

Christians are called to be people of the truth John Sadly, some Christians have a persistent habit of misrepresenting the truth, by the way they mis use the Internet. For years, Rick Warren has taken an interest in building relationships with Muslims, so that they might hear the Gospel of Jesus. You can only win your friends. Rick Warren, in , publicly denounced the accusations as false.
Now, just to be clear, I have no dog in this race. I have never met Rick Warren. I have never been to his church. I have never heard him preach, but others tell me that he is a great evangelist. Not the best thing I have ever read. But not bad either. I am sure God has and will continue to use his writings to change the lives of many people. It just was not necessarily the type of reading I personally go for. Unfortunately, the newspaper article contained many errors, according to Saddleback Church.
Shortly after the article was published, Rick Warren made statements intended to correct the misinformation. Sadly, some Christians, including the above mentioned tele-evangelist, spread the Orange County Register story, like wildfire on TV and the Internet, without ever bothering to ask Rick Warren directly, if the story was accurate or not. Never mind the fact that Saddleback Church has baptized over 45, people , over the years, a number of whom come from a Muslim background.
That is right: people from a Muslim background, risking ostracism and family rejection, to publicly identify with King Jesus. The video below should pretty much dispel such rumors, which is an interview that Rick Warren had with a leading Calvary Chapel pastor, a year or two ago. The Christian response was open to misinterpretation on several points, but it was meant to commend Muslim attempts to call for peace and dialogue, and rejecting violence , and not to be a final statement on doctrine.
Thanks Clarke. I actually appreciate his teaching and listen to his podcast daily. He is of course not perfect but I feel he is being strongly used by God. Like Like. Thanks, Fred. I read his little book, The Purpose of Christmas, to my mom, while she was dying of cancer a few years. I was already familiar with many of the themes in the book. It was not too heavy, but it clearly communicated the Gospel message.
So, it was something that was perfect for my mom to hear, before she died. I think he would, if not for the simple reason that it has given him the opportunity to get in front of many Muslims, to talk openly about the Gospel, in ways that most Christians never have been able to do. And God has greatly blessed those opportunities. We in the church can be our own worst enemies at times. And here is the bestselling books in history ranking chart note Rick Warren is nowhere near 1 :.
Or do we conceal the deeds of darkness, so that multitudes more can be both financially and spiritually defrauded and deceived? James, You raise a good point regarding truthfulness in advertising. Please allow me to make a few observations:. It is not like someone is standing outside of the door of every Barnes and Nobles, clicking their counters when a particular book sale is made. Every publisher has their own method of counting book sales, and Christian publishers are not exempt from this.
To your point, Christian book sellers should indeed stop making inflated claims about their books, that can not be substantiated. The only way to rectify this is to self-publish, which is an expensive undertaking.
What I do know is that many Christians have been blessed by his writings. I have no dog in this race, at that level. Christians and Muslims do share some common beliefs, but they also theologically conflict in some essential areas.
So, I appreciate and agree with your desire for integrity on the book sales. You should contact Zondervan, if you have not done so already, and let them know about your concerns. As far as going after Rick Warren, I think there are bigger and more important fish to fry….
Warren speak clarify his position! I saw a blurb on Facebook of the redoculous allegation of proposing to merge Christianity and Islam! I have read many of Mr. I knew the blurb was a lie. Hi, Holly: Yes, it is amazing how many people will believe just about anything, instead of checking out the facts for themselves. This is probably THE thing that started all the Chrislam talk. Look towards the end of the post, just before the video. My question would be why he signed on to a document describing God as the All merciful One which is the description of Allah through out the Quran.
Did he remove it? Also did he use this phrase in a speech which Obama attended. If so we can see why people are thinking the way they are. Truth is so close to lies that if it were possible even the elect would be deceive. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
Matthew KJV. Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? James KJV. Friend with the world you are not a friend of God.
